SI = (50,000 * 10 * 2) / 100 = Rs. 10,000

Therefore, the simple interest earned is Rs. 10,000.



  1. A boat travels upstream at a speed of 10 km/hr and downstream at a speed of 20 km/hr. Find the speed of the stream if the speed of the boat in still water is 15 km/hr.

Solution:

Let the speed of the stream be x km/hr. Speed of the boat upstream = (15 - x) km/hr Speed of the boat downstream = (15 + x) km/hr

We know that speed = distance / time

Let the distance travelled be d km. Time taken upstream = d / (15 - x) hours Time taken downstream = d / (15 + x) hours

Total time taken = time taken upstream + time taken downstream = d / (15 - x) + d / (15 + x)

We also know that time taken upstream = time taken downstream Therefore, d / (15 - x) = d / (15 + x)

Simplifying the equation, we get: 225 - x^2 = 225 + x^2 2x^2 = 0 x^2 = 0 x = 0

Therefore, the speed of the stream is 0 km/hr.



  1. A man sells an article at a profit of 20%. If he had sold it for Rs. 300 more, he would have made a profit of 30%. Find the cost price of the article.

Solution:

Let the cost price of the article be x. Selling price with a profit of 20% = (120/100) * x = 1.2x

Selling price with a profit of 30% = (130/100) * x = 1.3x

Given, 1.3x - 1.2x = Rs. 300 0.1x = Rs. 300 x = Rs. 3,000

Therefore, the cost price of the article is Rs. 3,000.



  1. The length of a rectangle is twice its breadth. If the area of the rectangle is 288 sq.cm, find its length and breadth.

Solution:

Let the breadth of the rectangle be x. Length of the rectangle = 2x

Area of the rectangle = Length * Breadth 288 = 2x * x 288 = 2x^2 x^2 = 144 x = 12

Therefore, the breadth of the rectangle is 12 cm. Length of the rectangle = 2 * 12 = 24 cm.
